The University of Tennessee men's basketball program has released its 2026‑27 non‑conference schedule, a 14‑game lineup that blends home comforts with a rigorous test of Power Five competition. Head coach Rick Barnes, now in his 15th season, described the slate as a deliberate effort to sharpen the team before conference play begins.
A demanding road ahead
Nine of the contests will be played at the Food City Center in Knoxville, while the remaining five will take the Vols to neutral venues and hostile arenas, including a much‑anticipated trip to West Lafayette to meet Purdue on Dec. 11.
The season opens on Nov. 3 against Wofford, a game that will set the tone for a schedule that also includes matchups versus Michigan State, Florida State, Radford, Tennessee State, Morehead State, Marist and Norfolk State.
Perhaps the most eye‑catching element is the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas, where Tennessee will test itself against a field that includes Maryland on Nov. 24 and either Iowa State or San Diego State two days later.
A neutral‑site showdown with North Carolina State is slated for Dec. 6 in Nashville, adding another marquee matchup before the Vols close the non‑conference portion with a home game against Norfolk State on Dec. 29.
Rick Barnes emphasized that the schedule is designed to challenge the team early, giving the Vols a chance to build momentum and confidence heading into the SEC season.
