Terry Martin, a towering figure in collegiate hockey, was inducted into the New York State Hockey Hall of Fame on July 12, cementing his place among the sport’s most influential builders.

From 1974 to 1999, Martin steered the SUNY Canton men’s program through an era of dominance, compiling a career record of 527‑211‑29 and guiding the team to twelve NJCAA national championships.
In November 2024, the college christened its hockey venue the Terry Martin Arena, while a bronze statue now stands outside the Convocation Recreation and Athletic Center, a permanent tribute to his contributions.
Beyond coaching, Martin wore many hats at SUNY Canton, serving as men’s athletic director, women’s soccer coach, men’s lacrosse mentor, and instructor in physical education, shaping the broader campus athletic landscape.
His impact was recognized earlier with the John "Snooks" Kelley Founders Award in 2009, an honor that reflects his lasting imprint on the sport.
