A Setback for the Aggies
The Texas A&M Aggies baseball team saw its season end earlier than expected when a 5-4 loss to USC on June 1 sealed a two‑game sweep that kept the Aggies out of the super regional round. It marked the first time since 2012 that the program failed to advance beyond the regional stage, ending a streak that had kept hopes of a College World Series appearance alive through the early part of the decade.
The defeat came after the Aggies had fought back from an early deficit, only to watch the Trojans rally in the ninth inning. The loss forced a decisive third game that the Aggies could not win, leaving them with a 2‑1 series score that fell short of the required victory. In the aftermath, the coaching staff faced scrutiny, and Texas A&M announced that longtime pitching coach Jason Kelly would not return for the next season.
Bringing Back a Versatile Infielder
Changes to the roster were swift. Alongside the departure of Kelly, the program added Jack Bell, a versatile infielder who previously wore an Aggies uniform before transferring to TCU. Bell’s return was highlighted on his Instagram, where he confirmed the move and expressed excitement about contributing to a team that last reached the College World Series as runners‑up in 2015.
Bell brings a blend of experience and skill to College Station. During his freshman year at Texas A&M, the team finished as the College World Series runners‑up, and he later posted a .303 batting average for the Frogs in 2026, accompanied by a .942 OPS. Over his college career he has compiled 12 home runs, 62 RBIs and drawn 39 walks, while seeing action at second base, third base and shortstop.
Looking Ahead to the Next Season
His defensive flexibility makes him a valuable piece for a program looking to rebuild its infield. The Aggies hope that Bell’s bat and glove can help shore up a lineup that lost several key contributors and may see further departures to the MLB draft, including infielders Chris Hacopian and Gavin Grahovac. The front office remains optimistic that the moves will translate into a stronger performance next year. Fans have responded positively to the news, seeing Bell’s return as a tangible step toward restoring the program’s former glory. With the offseason still unfolding, the Aggies are positioning themselves to compete again for a super regional berth and, ultimately, a spot in the College World Series.
