A Dual Celebration of Skill and Scholarship
Texas A&M’s baseball program has added another chapter to its story of athletic excellence, as two of its standout students were recently named Academic All‑Americans by College Sports Communicators. The honor underscores a rare blend of competitive drive and academic rigor that the university has come to celebrate.
Clayton Freshcorn, a junior majoring in agricultural leadership and development, earned a 3.69 GPA while posting a 4‑3 record, a 2.82 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP across 27 appearances. His 12 saves topped the SEC and placed him among the top relievers in Texas A&M history, while his defensive prowess also earned him finalist status for the Stopper of the Year Award and All‑America recognition from the National College Baseball Writers Association and the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Freshman Year Turns Into a Breakout Season
Gavin Grahovac, a junior sport management major, posted a .339/.429/.722 slash line with 74 RBI and a team‑high 76 runs scored. In SEC play he led the league in slugging percentage (.754), home runs (13), RBI (43) and runs scored (40) over 29 starts. His consistency manifested in 26 multi‑hit games and 20 multi‑RBI performances, helping the Aggies secure a strong conference standing.
Both athletes also received academic accolades beyond the All‑American designation. Grahovac was named the SEC Scholar‑Athlete of the Year, while Freshcorn’s performances attracted additional honors from the NCBWA and ABCA/Rawlings. Their achievements reflect the university’s emphasis on developing well‑rounded student‑athletes who excel both on the diamond and in the classroom.
Looking Ahead
The recognition comes amid strict eligibility standards: a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA and either participation in 90 percent of games or starting in at least 66 percent of contests. As the Aggies prepare for the next season, Freshcorn and Grahovac set a benchmark for future recruits, illustrating that top‑level performance can coexist with academic distinction.
