Texas A&M announced that a record 102 of its student-athletes earned spots on the 2025-26 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll, the second-largest total in school history.
The honorees maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 across their first two semesters while balancing competition in the SEC, spanning sports such as baseball, basketball, equestrian, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, and track and field.
A Record-Setting Recognition
The achievement marks the continuation of a trend of academic excellence at Texas A&M, where 312 athletes were recognized across fall, winter, spring, and first-year honor rolls this academic year.
To qualify, each athlete must have posted a 3.00 GPA or higher and completed the required academic credits, while also being a full-time member of a varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA championship segment.
Dr. Dan Childs, director of student-athlete academic services, praised the students for embodying the university’s dual mission of athletic competitiveness and scholarly rigor.
Greg Sankey, commissioner of the SEC, highlighted the conference’s commitment to fostering academic success alongside athletic achievement, noting that Texas A&M’s numbers reflect the conference’s broader standards.
Trev Alberts, senior associate athletic director for compliance, added that the university’s support structures, from tutoring programs to mentorship initiatives, play a crucial role in helping athletes meet these high academic benchmarks.
