Texas A&M's baseball program has added a promising arm to its roster, as right‑hander Wade Cooper announced his commitment to the Aggies after a standout season with Texas State.
A family connection fuels the future
Cooper follows in the footsteps of his parents, both Texas A&M alumni, who have long been supporters of the university's athletic tradition. The commitment underscores the pull of the Aggie network for the next generation of talent.
On the mound, Cooper brings a fastball that typically sits in the low‑90s, touching 97 mph on occasion, and a repertoire that includes a sharp breaking ball. In his most recent campaign he logged a 4.72 ERA, struck out a team‑high 73 batters and earned five saves, highlighted by a complete‑game effort against Arkansas State in which he surrendered just two runs while fanning 12.
Despite the impressive arsenal, his command remains a work in progress. He walked 25 batters and issued 11 wild pitches, indicating that refinement of his control will be essential as he moves to the higher level of collegiate competition.
The Aggies hope the addition of Cooper will bolster a pitching staff that has been seeking depth, and his presence could also attract attention from professional scouts. Teams such as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics have a history of scouting Texas talent, and Cooper's performance may open doors to the next level.
