Texas A&M’s baseball program made headlines this week as eight of its recent prospects were selected in the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft, establishing a new national record for the most Aggies chosen in a single draft.
A historic draft class
Among them, outfielder Chris Hacopian distinguished himself by being selected 11th overall by the Washington Nationals, becoming the highest‑drafted position player ever to emerge from College Station.
This achievement marks the first occasion since the 2002‑03 draft cycle that eight or more Aggies have been picked in back‑to‑back drafts, a feat that places Texas A&M among an elite group of collegiate programs.
That earlier class featured standouts such as Stephen Ponder, Eric Reed and Logan Kensing, who each carved out notable careers in professional baseball.
Texas A&M’s ability to consistently produce draft‑worthy talent is underscored by its track record of three or more selections in every MLB draft since 2001, a streak that reflects the program’s sustained development pipeline.
The draft also saw the Colorado Rockies and Florida Marlins each add Aggie prospects to their farm systems, highlighting the broad appeal of Texas A&M talent across the league.
