A Strategic Boost for the Longhorns
Texas baseball revealed this week that it has brought on board Jack Marder and Caleb Longley as new assistant coaches, signaling a focused effort to deepen expertise on the staff as the program prepares for the upcoming season.
Marder, who spent seven seasons at Oregon, will oversee hitters and catchers for the Longhorns. His tenure with the Ducks was marked by consistent NCAA Tournament appearances, multiple conference championships and national recognition from D1Baseball, which listed him among the most promising assistants in college baseball.
Longley joins after a stint as a minor‑league hitting instructor for the Cincinnati Reds and a series of roles at Texas A&M and Texas, where he previously served as a hitting coach and recruiting coordinator. He will concentrate on hitters and defensive development, bringing a strong recruiting network and a track record of producing power‑laden lineups.
The addition of both coaches comes as the Longhorns look to build on recent successes, including a strong 2023 campaign that saw the team capture the Pac‑12 Tournament title and advance to super‑regional play. Their combined experience in player development and program building is expected to reinforce the squad’s depth and competitiveness.
Future Prospects
With Marder’s proven ability to guide hitters and catchers and Longley’s focus on overall offensive and defensive strategy, the Longhorns’ coaching staff is positioned to continue its upward trajectory. The program’s recent recruiting wins, highlighted by first‑round MLB Draft pick Jace LaViolette, suggest that the new assistants will play a key role in translating talent into on‑field performance.
