Texas Linebacker JaMarquis Hudson Commits to Kansas
JaMarquis Hudson, a three-star linebacker from Port Arthur, Texas, announced his commitment to the University of Kansas on Tuesday, choosing the Jayhawks over a final slate that included Houston, Texas Tech, Kentucky and Purdue.
At Memorial High School, Hudson posted 105 tackles, 12 sacks and four interceptions during his junior season, numbers that placed him among the nation’s top interior defenders.
The recruitment had drawn interest from several power-conference programs, including Florida State, Arkansas, Mississippi State and others, but Kansas emerged as the clear favorite in the final weeks.
A Boost for Kansas’ 2027 Class
Hudson’s pledge brings Kansas’ 2027 recruiting class to 16 commitments, positioning the group as a competitive force within the Big 12 and elevating the class to a national ranking of No. 38.
He joins four-star tight end Mason Oglesby as the second-highest-rated recruit in the cohort, a tandem that could reshape the Jayhawks’ defensive and offensive schemes.
Coaches have highlighted the role of upgraded facilities and a culture of sustained improvement as key factors in attracting talent like Hudson, who cited the program’s trajectory as a decisive element in his decision.
Implications for the Big 12 Landscape
The addition of a proven pass-rusher strengthens Kansas’ defensive outlook against traditional conference powerhouses, potentially altering the balance of power in upcoming matchups.
Analysts note that the class ranking reflects a broader upward trend for the program, one that could translate into higher preseason expectations and greater visibility on national stages.
