Texas Longhorns march to the Super Regional
The Longhorns completed a sweep of the Austin Regional, winning all three games and outscoring their opponents 41-7 over the weekend. The final score of the decisive game against UC Santa Barbara was 6-4, a victory that cemented Texas’s place in the next round.
Key performances defined the series. Ruger Riojas logged his 300th career strikeout during the matchup with Santa Barbara, while Aiden Robbins delivered a two‑run homer in the seventh inning, his third blast of the regional and part of a nine‑RBI effort.
Texas seized the lead in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly by Adrian Rodriguez and a single by Ethan Mendoza, only to see the Gauchos answer with two runs in the bottom half. The Longhorns responded in the eighth with two more runs to pull away.
Looking ahead
The next challenge will be the winner of the Eugene Regional, where the Oregon Ducks or Oregon State Beavers await. Regardless of the opponent, Texas enters the Super Regional with momentum and a roster that has shown the ability to rally under pressure.
The NCAA’s role in organizing these regional tournaments underscores the national significance of the Longhorns’ achievement, as the team now prepares for a potential showdown on a larger stage.
