Roadrunners Look to Fill Host Family Slots for 2026‑27 Season
The Texas Roadrunners, a junior ice hockey club competing in the North American 3 Hockey League, are gearing up for a season that will run from September through March. To accommodate the roster of teenage athletes, the team is actively recruiting roughly ten additional host families in the College Station area and beyond.
Prospective hosts would open a spare bedroom, provide meals and daily support, and in return receive a stipend of $500 per month per player to offset food expenses. In addition, families earn season tickets for every home game, granting them front‑row access to the action at Spirit Ice Arena.
Player Origins and Travel Demands
Athletes on the roster hail from across the United States, with occasional participants joining from Canada and Europe. The schedule includes roughly half of the games played on the road, with trips that can take the team as far east as Atlanta and as far south as North Carolina, adding a layer of logistical complexity for host families.
Training camp is slated for the final week of August, just before the September 1 season opener. Throughout the campaign, players are expected to manage their own laundry and perform light household chores, fostering independence while maintaining a supportive living environment.
Interested families can reach out to the team’s billet coordinator, Jeannie Beavis, via email at jeannie@texasroadrunnershockey.com. Chris Barnes, a longtime volunteer with the program, also assists in matching families with players and overseeing the host‑family network.
Logistics and Support
The team practices at Spirit Ice Arena in College Station, a facility that serves as the hub for daily training and team meetings. Host families receive a modest financial stipend, but the primary reward is the opportunity to mentor young athletes and become part of a close‑knit hockey community.
