A Promising Return
Jonah Williams, a two‑sport standout at the University of Texas, has been working his way back from a shoulder operation performed in March 2026. The surgery ended his baseball season early and forced a period of rehabilitation before he could re‑enter football activities.
During a recent scrimmage, Williams flashed the playmaking ability that earned him a five‑star rating as a safety prospect. He intercepted a pass aimed at receiver Emmett Mosley V and delivered a hard‑hitting tackle on running back Hollywood Smothers that drew praise from head coach Steve Sarkisian.
With Michael Taaffe now in the NFL, the Longhorns' secondary is open for fresh talent. Williams will battle for a starting spot alongside Jelani McDonald, Derek Williams and Kobe Black, while also remaining on the baseball roster as an outfielder.
Coach Jim Schlossnagle has hinted that Williams might eventually focus on football, but the athlete himself stresses the value of staying versatile. “Why limit myself to one sport when I can play two?” he said, underscoring his commitment to both programs.
The recovery process has been methodical. After completing strength and conditioning work in June and July 2026, Williams was cleared for full training camp, giving him a realistic chance to contribute on the field this fall.
