A Season of Resilience
The 2026 season will be remembered as one of the most turbulent yet rewarding chapters in Texas State baseball history, marked by a cascade of injuries and a relentless push to compete at the highest level.
A spate of injuries stripped the Bobcats of key offensive pieces, including starting shortstop Ethan Farris and first baseman Dawson Park, creating opportunities for veterans like Ryan Markwardt, Clayton Namken and Chase Mora to step up.
Coach Steven Trout responded by converting right‑handers Wade Cooper and Cade Smith into starters, a move that stabilized a rotation hit by depth issues and injected fresh energy into the pitching staff.
The revamped rotation helped the team close the regular season on a high note, winning seven of their final eight games and finishing the year with a Sun Belt‑record 116 home runs, a tally achieved by six different players who each reached double‑digit homers.
Even though the Bobcats were eliminated in the NCAA Tournament after losses to Texas A&M and USC, their performance — scoring more runs against USC than any other regional team — underscored the offensive firepower they had cultivated.
Looking Forward
Coach Trout repeatedly emphasized retention and the development of a strong team culture, themes that will shape the program as it prepares to transition into the Pac‑12 conference, promising new rivalries and greater exposure.
In the offseason, the coaching staff will focus on integrating the returning players with the fresh faces, aiming to preserve the momentum generated by the record‑setting campaign and to build on the resilience that defined the 2026 journey.
