A timely recruitment wave
Texas Tech’s baseball program is set to welcome three new faces for the 2027 season, each arriving through the recently opened NCAA transfer portal. The moves come as the portal remains active through the end of June, a period that allows undergraduate athletes to switch schools with immediate eligibility.
Xavier Perez, a right‑field bat from the University of Houston, announced his commitment on social media. In his most recent campaign he posted a .288 average, hit nine home runs and drove in 36 runs, showcasing a blend of contact and power that should bolster the lineup.
Joining him, K.J. Scobey, a versatile infielder who spent the 2026 year at the University of South Carolina, brings experience at both shortstop and third base. He mirrored Perez’s statistical line with a .252 average, nine homers and 36 RBIs, offering the coaching staff flexibility in the field.
Right‑hander Jase Evangelista, a relief arm from UNLV, also pledged to the Red Raiders after a 4‑1 record, a 6.17 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 46.2 innings. His ability to close games adds depth to the pitching staff as the roster builds toward the upcoming season.
The portal’s June 30 deadline looms large, as players must have their names entered by that date to transfer with immediate eligibility. Texas Tech’s early commitments illustrate a strategic effort to infuse talent before the window closes.
