Texas Tech football has secured a commitment from Denton Guyer defensive tackle Khyren Haywood, a top‑100 prospect in the state, reinforcing the Red Raiders' push for a strong 2027 recruiting class.
A Season to Remember
Haywood finished his senior year with 66 tackles, 28 tackles for loss and 11 sacks, numbers that helped him earn District 5‑6A defensive player of the year and a Class 6A third‑team all‑state nod.
The defensive lineman’s production placed him among the most dominant interior players in Texas, drawing scholarship offers from more than 30 programs, including Florida State, LSU, Mississippi, Oregon, USC, Texas and Texas A&M.
His decision marks the fifth defensive lineman to join the 2027 class, joining Jalen Brewster, K'Adrian Redmond, Anthony Sweeney and Brody Pfannenstiel, while the offense already has commitments from quarterback Kavian Bryant and wide receivers Benny Easter Jr. and Julian Caldwell.
Coaches say the influx of talent on both sides of the ball positions Texas Tech to compete more aggressively in the Big 12, and the early signees give the program momentum as it looks to build a balanced roster for the upcoming season.
