A Fifth-Year Boost for the Red Raiders
Darrion Williams, the NC State guard who entered the transfer portal after his junior season, is set to rejoin Texas Tech for a fifth year of eligibility. A Colorado court recently issued a blanket injunction that restores a fifth year for 2022 recruits, allowing Williams to return after a one-year hiatus.
Williams arrives with a reputation for delivering clutch moments. In his true-junior season he hit game-winning shots against Arkansas, Kansas and Houston, performances that have already become part of Red Raiders lore.
The university announced his signing in August, noting that the move is part of a broader effort to strengthen the roster with eligible talent. Alongside him, UCF transfer Jamichael Stillwell also received an additional year, adding depth to the backcourt.
Beyond the hardwood, Williams has been seen supporting the Texas Tech softball team during the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, underscoring his integration into the wider campus community.
The addition of Williams and Stillwell reflects the program’s strategy to capitalize on the NCAA’s recent eligibility adjustments, aiming to compete more aggressively in the Big 12 conference.
