Texas Tech’s women’s basketball program is set to embark on a two‑game tour of British Columbia this August, marking the second consecutive summer the Lady Raiders will play abroad.
A Strategic Stop in Canada
The Lady Raiders will face the University of British Columbia on August 8 and the UBC Okanagan campus on August 10, with the itinerary spanning from August 6 through August 11 and including a series of practices and media events.
Coach Krista Gerlich has framed the excursion as more than a travel opportunity; she sees it as a chance to forge chemistry among the 11 newcomers, six of whom are freshmen, and to give the entire roster extra practice before the 2026‑27 campaign.
The team has been on campus since June, using offseason workouts to fine‑tune systems and build rapport, and the Canada stop extends that preparation with competitive game experience.
Financial backing from donors made the trans‑border trip possible, allowing the program to showcase the Texas Tech brand on an international stage once again.
The tour continues a pattern established last summer, when Texas Tech captured a silver medal at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany, a momentum‑building effort that propelled the team to a 26‑8 record and a berth in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
Looking Ahead to the New Season
With the chemistry forged abroad and the experience gained, the Lady Raiders enter the upcoming season poised to translate their summer work into on‑court success, aiming to extend their winning streak that began with 19 straight victories to open the previous campaign.
