Texas Tech’s women’s basketball program is set to wrap up its summer with a two‑game swing through British Columbia, Canada, from August 6‑11.
The Lady Raiders will meet the University of British Columbia on August 8 and UBC Okanagan on August 10, using the matchups to fine‑tune a roster that features eleven newcomers, including six freshmen.
A Strategic Stop for Chemistry and Experience
Coach Krista Gerlich has repeatedly stressed that the trip is about more than wins; it is a chance to build cohesion among a squad that has been together on campus since June for intensive offseason workouts.
The Canada leg is financed by donors who want to extend the offseason program with extra practice time and competitive game experience before the 2026‑27 campaign.
This marks the second consecutive summer the Lady Raiders have embarked on an international tour, following a silver‑medal performance at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany and a 26‑8 record that carried them to the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
The momentum from that silver medal helped Texas Tech open the 2025‑26 season with a 19‑game winning streak and finish 12‑6 in Big 12 play, earning Coach Gerlich Big 12 Coach of the Year honors and a four‑year contract extension.
The upcoming games in British Columbia will give the team a final chance to test new lineups and defensive schemes before the next season’s roster reshuffles.
