His high school numbers illustrate a player who can both throw and run, having amassed 6,838 career passing yards and 71 touchdowns while also contributing on the ground.
During his junior season, Thatcher completed 70% of his passes for 2,625 yards and 29 touchdowns, numbers that helped him attract attention from several Power Five programs. He chose Oregon State over offers from Michigan, UCF, UNLV and Utah, signaling a preference for the Pacific Northwest environment and the coaching staff's development plan.
