A Family Rooted in the Game
In the quiet town of Wellington, Florida, basketball is more than a pastime — it is a family tradition that has spanned decades. The Toledo household, anchored by patriarch Rudy Toledo and his wife Catalina, has turned the local gym into a laboratory of talent, teamwork and perseverance.
Rudy, a former shooting guard who sharpened his skills at Santaluces High School in the mid‑1990s, now leads the girls varsity team at Wellington High School. Catalina, meanwhile, channels her energy into volunteer work as a team mom for the Wellington Wolves travel program, ensuring that the logistics of competition never overshadow the athletes' growth.
Coaching Across Generations
Their son Nico followed a parallel path, starring on the high school varsity squad before guiding his team to multiple Florida High School Athletic Association Final Four appearances. After earning a business degree from Eastern Florida State College, he extended his playing career at Webber International University and the State University of New York at Plattsburgh before returning to Wellington as an assistant coach and head coach of the girls junior varsity team.
Daughter Gaby capped the family’s on‑court achievements with a 1,000‑point high school career, a NJCAA Region 8 Division 2 championship at Palm Beach State College, and now competes at Rutgers University‑Camden, where she pursues a health‑science degree with a political‑science minor.
Looking Ahead
The Toledo legacy continues as both parents remain deeply involved in their children’s athletic journeys, supporting everything from weekend practices to college recruitment. Their story illustrates how a shared passion can shape careers, community ties, and future aspirations across generations.
