Thomas Allen, a right-handed pitcher from Benton, Louisiana, has been selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s Second Team Freshman All-American roster, a distinction that marks a milestone for Louisiana Tech baseball.
The recognition comes after Allen’s impressive debut season, during which he appeared in 19 games, posted a 3.54 earned-run average over 48.1 innings and struck out 49 batters while limiting opponents to a .195 batting average.
His five saves ranked second on the team and tied for sixth in Conference USA, and his .192 average against league opponents stands as the lowest ever recorded by a Tech pitcher in conference play.
A Historic Milestone
Allen joins an exclusive group of Bulldogs who have earned Freshman All-American honors, becoming the eighth in program history and the first since Ryan Harland in 2022; prior to Harland, Phil Maton held the title in 2012.
Coach Ryan Gebhardt praised Allen’s composure on the mound, noting that the pitcher’s ability to handle high-pressure situations was evident from his 5-3 record and the 24 hits he allowed in Conference USA games, the second-fewest among Tech pitchers.
National Recognition
The NCBWA’s Freshman All-American team this year comprised 34 standout freshmen from across the nation, underscoring the competitive depth of college baseball and the significance of Allen’s selection.
With the accolade, Allen not only cements his place in Louisiana Tech’s record books but also sets a benchmark for future pitchers aiming to make an impact in their inaugural collegiate campaigns.
Louisiana Tech’s baseball program has a storied tradition of developing talent, and Allen’s honor adds to a legacy that includes multiple All-American selections over the decades.
The Bulldog community celebrates this achievement as a testament to the coaching staff’s development pipeline and the university’s commitment to competitive athletics.
As the team prepares for the upcoming season, Allen’s performance provides a rallying point for teammates and fans alike, promising continued excellence on the mound.
