Austin Peay State University has appointed Thomas Williams to lead its goalkeeping efforts as the program prepares for the 2026 campaign, signaling a strategic push to elevate defensive performance in the Ohio Valley Conference.
A Strategic Addition to the Coaching Staff
Williams arrives after two seasons as a volunteer assistant with Marietta College’s women’s soccer team, where he contributed to a unit that captured OAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors in 2025, a distinction that underscored his capacity to develop talent.
His playing career at Marietta from 2018 to 2021 was marked by an unblemished record whenever he took the pitch, preserving clean sheets in every appearance and earning a reputation for reliability between the posts.
Beyond the field, Williams earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management in 2022, a scholarly foundation that informs his analytical approach to game preparation and player development.
Coach Kim McGowan, who announced the appointment, emphasized that Williams’s blend of playing experience and coaching acumen aligns perfectly with the program’s ambition to compete at the highest level within the conference.
The move is expected to deepen the squad’s defensive cohesion and provide younger goalkeepers with a mentor who has navigated both the rigors of collegiate competition and the responsibilities of coaching.
