Three members of the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers have been recognized on the 2023 West Virginia Sports Writers Association All-State Baseball Team, a testament to the program’s growing competitiveness.
First-Team Standout
Junior Brody McDaniels earned the first-team slot as an infielder, leading the squad with a .479 batting average and five home runs. He also drove in 39 runs, scored 24 times, and posted a 3.63 earned-run average on the mound.
Junior Jaxon Spratt was selected for the second team, posting a .459 average and six home runs. He contributed 41 runs driven in and added a 2.68 earned-run average as a pitcher.
Honorable Mention and Season Context
Senior Jerin Westfall received honorable mention after hitting .404 with one home run, while also driving in 15 runs and scoring 32. On the mound he logged a 6.69 earned-run average.
The Buccaneers concluded the season with a 14-15 record. Team captain Jon Fala of George Washington was named captain of the first team, while Kai Henkins of Morgantown led the second team.
With several standout performances and a competitive record, the Buccaneers look poised to build on this momentum in the coming seasons.
