The performance underscored the depth of talent emerging from the SEC and highlighted the pitchers’ ability to dominate under pressure.
King, who captured SEC Pitcher of the Year and first‑team All‑SEC honors in 2026, announced his return to the Gators after a breakout season that yielded eight wins and a 3.21 ERA over 16 starts. He entered the camp having thrown five consecutive scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, a showing that helped seal his spot on the national squad.
Barberi, meanwhile, tied for the most mound appearances among the Gators’ staff, logging three innings while allowing just one run. He closed the season with 11 straight scoreless outings and amassed 55 strikeouts, a testament to his reliability in high‑leverage situations.
Whritenour contributed three shutout, hit‑less innings, striking out three and walking two. The reliever capped his collegiate career by leading Florida with seven saves in 2026, a figure that helped him secure a return for the upcoming season.
