Three standout athletes from the University of North Dakota have earned spots on the 2026 Team Canada World Junior Summer Showcase roster, a testament to the program’s growing influence on the international stage.
A Milestone for North Dakota Hockey
Cole Reschny, Keaton Verhoeff and Carson Carels were named to the 32‑player lineup that will convene in Windsor, Ontario, for a series of practices, scrimmages and exhibition contests against Finland, Sweden and the United States between July 26 and August 1.
The schedule includes two practice sessions on July 27 and 28, followed by a matchup with Sweden on July 29, a game against Finland on July 30 and the final test against the United States on August 1.
Each of the three players previously contributed to Canada’s bronze‑medal performance at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championships, a feat that marked the nation’s first medal since 2023.
Their inclusion also underscores a broader trend: the University of North Dakota will be represented by five players on the United States roster, featuring incoming freshman Cooper Simpson and future forward Carter Sanderson.
Coach Mike Johnston praised the selections, noting that the experience will not only aid the players’ development but also reinforce the school’s reputation as a pipeline for elite talent.
