Scholar‑Athletes Recognized
The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) announced its Krampade All‑American Scholar list for the 2025‑26 academic year, honoring student‑athletes who maintain a minimum 3.75 GPA across all semesters while participating in at least 40 % of their team’s games. The distinction reflects a commitment to balancing rigorous scholarship with competitive athletics.
Among the honorees are Union College forwards Carter Rose, Drew Sutton and defenseman Luke Buss, each of whom met the stringent academic criteria and contributed significantly to the team’s performance.
Rose, who transferred to Union from Clarkson University, appeared in all 37 games for the Dutchmen and recorded 10 points through two goals and eight assists. His consistent presence on the roster underscored both his adaptability and his impact in the lineup.
Buss, a rookie who scored his first collegiate goal against Alaska Fairbanks on Dec. 13, finished the season with two points in 15 appearances. His development highlighted the depth of talent within the program.
Sutton, a two‑time recipient of the Charlie N. Morrison Award, played in 33 games and matched his career‑high with 10 points, comprising three goals and seven assists. Beyond his on‑ice contributions, he serves on the Student‑Athlete Advisory Committee and participates in Union’s Scholars’ Program, exemplifying the college’s emphasis on holistic student growth.
The recognition of these three players illustrates a broader trend at Union, where academic achievement and athletic ambition are pursued in tandem. Their stories reflect the institution’s dedication to fostering leaders who excel both in the classroom and on the ice.
