The Lincoln Pius X Girls Soccer team captured the Class B State Championship on Saturday, edging out Blair 2-1 in a tightly contested final.
A Long‑Awaited Triumph
The victory marks the Thunderbolts’ first state title since 2005, ending a 21‑year drought that had left fans longing for a return to the podium.
Margaret O’Donnell opened the scoring in the 31st minute, slipping a precise strike past the Blair keeper to put Pius ahead.
Less than two minutes later, Ava Kolm capitalized on a corner kick, sending the ball soaring into the net to double the lead.
Blair answered in the second half with a solitary goal, but Pius goalkeeper Regan Blattert made a series of crucial saves to preserve the narrow advantage.
Coach Steve Andersen, who has guided the squad for several seasons, praised his players, calling them his daughters and highlighting the dedication that defined their campaign.
The Thunderbolts had narrowly missed out on the title in the previous two years, finishing as Class A runners‑up in 2024 and Class B runners‑up in 2025, making this triumph all the more poignant.
The championship was celebrated on the field amid cheers from families, alumni, and the broader community, underscoring the deep roots of the program in Omaha.
