The Oklahoma City Thunder are set to reshape their 2026-27 NBA campaign with an unconventional double-header approach, staging two consecutive games against each of five opponents across the regular season.
A double-header schedule
Starting in early November, the Thunder will open with a two-game series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, followed by back-to-back matchups with the Portland Trail Blazers in mid-November. Additional twin-bill dates include a home-and-away stretch versus the Brooklyn Nets in late November and early December, a March showdown with the Phoenix Suns, and an April clash with the Golden State Warriors.
At the heart of the roster are All-Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, emerging big man Chet Holmgren and versatile wing Jalen Williams, a trio that analysts rank among the league’s most potent.
Championship aspirations
Having captured one championship ring, the organization is channeling its experience into a fresh push for a second title, with the front office emphasizing player development and strategic rest to keep the core fresh for the grueling schedule.
The Thunder rank fifth in the league for national television appearances, trailing only the Knicks, Spurs, Lakers and 76ers, underscoring the league’s confidence in their marketability and on-court narrative.
By clustering games in the same venue, the team hopes to limit travel fatigue, preserve energy for the playoffs, and maintain a consistent fan experience throughout the season.
If the early returns are any indication, the Thunder’s innovative scheduling could not only streamline logistics but also amplify their push toward another championship.
