Camp Highlights Emerging Football Talent Across Washington
The Thurston County Team Football Camp in Tumwater gathered 32 high school programs from across Washington, including seven teams from the county itself. The event provided a rare opportunity for squads to test their varsity and junior‑varisty units against a diverse set of opponents before the season officially begins.
Among the teams making the biggest impression were the Capital Cougars, who are in the midst of a rebuild after losing many starters. Head coach Terry Rose expressed confidence in his young roster, noting that quarterback Nolan Potts has fully recovered from a broken leg and is ready to lead the offense.
Olympia’s Bears also drew attention for a potent attack anchored by quarterback Tucker Downing and running back Aden Carr. Carr’s ability to find the end zone repeatedly gave a glimpse of the team’s elevated physicality under head coach Cary Nagel.
River Ridge, aiming for a turnaround, introduced new offensive coordinator Kendall Johnson and defensive coordinator Adam Kulhawik. Their fresh philosophies were on display as quarterback Ryzen Nunez showed poise in the pocket, while the coaching staff’s football IQ was evident throughout practice.
Tenino’s defense stood out, anchored by linebacker Parker Minerich, whose knack for intercepting passes and delivering hard hits added a new layer of menace to the unit.
Timberline’s defensive line, featuring Kataferu Galoia, was described as electric, with the tackle consistently bursting into the backfield and disrupting opposing play calls.
Tumwater, despite parting with several key contributors, reloaded with a powerful rushing attack led by Grady Wall, Tyler Briscoe and Jayden Hinchcliffe. Defensive line continuity from last year’s run to Husky Stadium remains a cornerstone, and head coach William Garrow is optimistic about senior quarterback Jake Reid taking the reins.
The camp’s energy was further amplified by the presence of numerous coaches and players, each bringing a unique perspective that promises a competitive season across the board.
