Tiffany D. Tucker, UMBC’s Director of Athletics, has taken on a new national role as a member of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee, effective September 1, 2024.
Leadership at the Forefront of Women’s College Basketball
The committee, which guides policy and strategic initiatives for Division I women’s basketball, will benefit from Tucker’s extensive playing and coaching background. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she previously excelled as a Division I player before moving into administration, where she earned recognition on the NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee and captured the 2022 Women Leaders in College Sports Nell Jackson Executive of the Year award.
Now serving as President of WeCoach, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing women coaches, Tucker brings a commitment to gender equity that aligns with the committee’s broader goals. Her career spans stints as deputy athletic director at UNC Wilmington and leadership positions at several institutions, including Allegheny College and Radford University.
Under her oversight, UMBC’s Retrievers have enjoyed a standout 2025‑26 athletic season, capturing four America East Conference titles across volleyball, men’s swimming and diving, women’s indoor track and field, and men’s basketball. The programs advanced to the NCAA Tournament in both volleyball and basketball, while three individual athletes secured championship placements.
Academic excellence accompanied the on‑court success, with a cumulative GPA of 3.38 across 17 sports and 46 student‑athletes earning spots on the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District Teams. The women’s swimming and diving and lacrosse squads also ranked among the top 10 in the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
Tucker’s appointment underscores UMBC’s growing influence in collegiate athletics and reflects the university’s dedication to both competitive achievement and scholarly distinction.
