Recovery Setbacks
The Detroit Tigers have announced that shortstop Javier Báez will remain out of baseball activities as his recovery from a right high ankle sprain continues to progress slowly.
Manager A.J. Hinch explained that the team is taking a measured approach, noting that Báez has not shown the expected improvement since the injury occurred on April 28.
Hinch added that rest is a critical component of the healing process and that the organization is committed to ensuring the player is fully healthy before returning to the lineup.
The club also reported that utility player Trey Sweeney, sidelined since spring training with a right shoulder strain, will need additional medical evaluation before a timeline can be established.
While the exact return dates remain uncertain, Hinch expressed confidence that both players are on the right path and that the team will move forward cautiously to protect their long‑term health.
