A Strategic Homecoming for Tim Bezbatchenko
After a two‑year stint with the Black Knight Football Club, Tim Bezbatchenko is poised to return to his home state of Ohio, where he will serve as president of global soccer for Haslam Sports Group. The appointment marks a full‑circle moment for a executive whose career has been deeply intertwined with the region’s soccer landscape.
Bezbatchenko will have oversight of every sporting element tied to the upcoming Columbus NWSL franchise, the Columbus Crew, and broader domestic and international soccer investments. His mandate includes building the staff and roster for the new NWSL team while continuing to support the Crew’s ongoing ambitions.
The Haslam family, owners of Haslam Sports Group, praised Bezbatchenko’s leadership and dedication. Dee and Jimmy Haslam, who will be his direct reports as CEO and Chairman, highlighted his proven track record of delivering three MLS Cups, a Supporters’ Shield, and multiple continental finals appearances.
Bezbatchenko’s career spans 17 years of global soccer leadership, during which he guided the Crew to two MLS Cups in 2020 and 2023 while serving as president and general manager from January 2019 to June 2024. His recent experience includes stints with Black Knight Football Club and a deep roots in the Columbus community, where he was born in Westerville.
In his new role, Bezbatchenko will report to Dee and Jimmy Haslam, alongside President of Business Operations Mary Shepro, forming the first executive team tasked with shaping the future of both the men’s and women’s professional soccer clubs in Columbus. He expressed excitement about launching an NWSL team and continuing to build on the city’s growing soccer culture.
