Tim Monahan Appointed Head Boys Basketball Coach at Turpin High School

Former McNicholas Coach Brings Championship Pedigree to Spartans

A New Era for Turpin Basketball

Turpin High School has named Tim Monahan as its new head coach of the boys basketball program, taking over from Connor Roberts, who guided the Spartans for the past three seasons.

Monahan arrives after a distinguished tenure at McNicholas High School, where he amassed 216 victories, captured two Greater Catholic League titles, and led his teams to eight sectional championships and a district championship in 2021.

A Record of Excellence

During his 16‑year stint at McNicholas, Monahan was honored three times as both Greater Catholic League coach of the year and District 16 coach of the year, reflecting his consistent ability to compete at the highest local levels.

He also served as a varsity assistant for the Princeton Vikings, contributing to the team’s OHSAA Division I state championship run earlier this season, a experience that further sharpened his strategic acumen.

Beyond the varsity level, Monahan runs the Xcel Youth Basketball program, a well‑known initiative that offers summer camps, player development clinics, and AAU teams, helping to nurture talent throughout the region.

Tony Hemmelgarn, Turpin’s athletic director, praised Monahan’s coaching pedigree and the toughness his teams have historically displayed, stating that the new coach aligns perfectly with the school’s aspirations for sustained success.

Monahan himself expressed enthusiasm about building relationships with the players and instilling a culture rooted in toughness, teamwork, discipline, and player development, promising a competitive and cohesive program moving forward.

Looking Ahead

The Spartans’ fan base and coaching staff are optimistic that Monahan’s blend of championship experience and community engagement will revitalize the program and drive Turpin to new heights in the upcoming season.
