Tim Monahan Appointed Head Boys Basketball Coach at Turpin High School

Former McNicholas Coach Brings Championship Pedigree to Turpin

Tim Monahan has been named the new head coach of the Turpin High School boys basketball program, a decision that still awaits formal approval from the school board. The announcement came on May 20, 2026, marking the culmination of a thorough search that followed the departure of Connor Roberts after three seasons at the helm.

Monahan arrives with a distinguished résumé from McNicholas High School, where he served as head coach from 2009 through 2025. During that tenure he amassed 216 victories, ranking second in the school’s history, and captured three Greater Catholic League Coach of the Year honors alongside three District 16 Coach of the Year accolades.

His teams at McNicholas were consistently dominant, securing two GCL championships, eight sectional titles and a district championship in 2021. The previous season saw him serve as an assistant with the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I state‑champion Princeton Vikings, a role that underscored his ability to contribute to championship cultures.

Forging a New Identity

Beyond the gym, Monahan and his family have called Anderson Township home for many years, a community connection that school officials say adds a personal dimension to his leadership. He also runs the Xcel Youth Basketball program, known for its player‑development focus, summer camps and competitive AAU teams.

Tony Hemmelgarn, Turpin’s athletic director, praised Monahan’s coaching acumen and the toughness he instills in his squads. “Tim brings a proven track record of excellence and a mindset that aligns perfectly with our goals,” Hemmelgarn said in a statement.

Monahan expressed enthusiasm about the new opportunity, emphasizing his desire to build relationships with players and cultivate a culture of toughness and teamwork. “I’m excited to work with the young men at Turpin and to help them achieve their full potential both on and off the court,” he said.
