Tim O’Neal Takes the Helm of Choudrant High Baseball

A seasoned coach returns to lead the program toward another state championship

A New Era for Choudrant Baseball

Tim O’Neal has been appointed as the new head baseball coach for Choudrant High School, succeeding Joel Antley. The school board and community alike welcomed the move, citing O’Neal’s deep roots in Louisiana baseball and his extensive track record of building competitive programs from the ground up.

O’Neal arrives with nearly 25 years of coaching experience, a résumé that includes a state championship with Ouachita Christian in 2015 and a career record of 362‑198. He has guided several programs — including D’Arbonne Woods, St. Frederick High School, Ruston High School, Neville, and Ouachita Christian — through sustained success, and he now hopes to replicate that formula with the Choudrant Bears.

The coach’s vision centers on discipline, hard work, and a steady climb through the junior varsity ranks. He plans to lay a foundation that can sustain yearly progress, aiming to bring the team back to the pinnacle of Louisiana baseball. "We want to build relationships, represent Choudrant with toughness, and instill a solid work ethic," O’Neal said in a recent interview.

Principal Chris Jones expressed excitement about the appointment, noting O’Neal’s extensive knowledge of the game and his ability to mentor young athletes. "His experience and leadership will help our players grow both on and off the field," Jones remarked, emphasizing the coach’s commitment to representing the school with pride.

Key players such as Cash Camp and Cam Bagwell are expected to anchor the 2027 roster, providing a blend of talent and experience that could accelerate the team’s ascent. O’Neal believes that with disciplined development and a focus on fundamentals, the Bears can contend for another state title in the near future.

Beyond the day‑to‑day duties at Choudrant High, O’Neal serves as executive director of the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association, a role that has earned him praise from College Baseball Hall of Fame coach Wilbert Ellis. "Tim’s appointment is a testament to his deep understanding of the game and his ability to lead," Ellis said, highlighting the confidence peers have in his leadership.
