A Legacy of Grit
Tim Turner, the longtime baseball coach at Broadway High School, died this week after a prolonged battle with ALS. His passing has left a void in the community that had rallied around him for years.
Over seven seasons, Turner compiled a 76‑48 record, captured a Valley District championship and guided the Gobblers to several regional tournament appearances. He was known for instilling a philosophy of mental toughness that went beyond the diamond.
The campaign dubbed “Tim Tough” was launched shortly after his 2025 diagnosis, inviting fans, alumni and local businesses to contribute. Within weeks the effort surpassed $10,000, a testament to the deep respect many held for the coach.
Danny Grogg, who served as an assistant on Turner’s staff before taking the helm of the school’s football program, recalled the coach’s relentless drive. “He taught us that toughness is a choice,” Grogg said, adding that Turner’s influence will echo through future generations of athletes.
