Tim Whitman, the North DeSoto softball coach, was recently crowned Class 4A Softball Coach of the Year, marking his tenth state championship and cementing his place among the most decorated coaches in Louisiana high school sports.
A Decade of Dominance
Whitman’s latest honor follows titles earned at Pineville, Ouachita Parish and North DeSoto, underscoring a career built on consistent excellence and a relentless focus on team achievement.
He attributes the success to the collective effort of his players, coaches and support staff, emphasizing that the accolade belongs to the entire program rather than any individual.
MVP Performances
In the same ceremony, Corey Bourgeois of Vandebilt Catholic was named baseball MVP, while Lauren Baudoin captured the softball MVP, each delivering standout statistics that highlighted their teams’ campaigns and exemplified the depth of talent across the state.
Their achievements reflect a broader surge in Louisiana high school sports, where individual brilliance often dovetails with team triumphs, creating a vibrant competitive landscape.
Baseball Coach of the Year
Wayne Stein of St. Charles added another layer of distinction by being named Class 4A Baseball Coach of the Year, a rare feat that saw him guide programs to championships in two different sports within a single season.
The recognition was coordinated by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, which also partners with institutions such as Nicholls State to celebrate these athletic milestones and preserve the stories that define Louisiana's sporting heritage.
