The Timberline Spartans will not field a varsity football team this fall. After a season that left the roster too thin to compete, the school has agreed to a co‑op arrangement with the Orofino Maniacs, allowing its players to join the neighboring program.
The collaboration is not new; the two schools have previously combined forces in basketball and track, sharing resources and coaching expertise. Athletic directors from both districts say the partnership could provide a more sustainable football experience for both communities.
A Strategic Partnership
Orofino’s coaching staff, headed by Seth Melton and his half‑brother Sean Diffin, welcomed the influx of talent. They highlighted the addition of senior quarterback Korbin Christopherson, who will also benefit from the guidance of his father Pat Christopherson, the former Timberline coach now assisting on the Orofino sideline.
The merged squad is scheduled to make its debut on August 21 against the Marsing Huskies, marking the first step in what both coaches hope will be a turnaround in performance after Orofino’s winless campaign last year.
Community members and alumni have expressed cautious optimism, noting that the co‑op not only preserves football opportunities for Timberline athletes but also injects experienced leadership into the Orofino program. As the season unfolds, the success of the arrangement will be measured by on‑field progress and the continued development of the young players involved.
