USA Hockey has named Timmy Runtso among the participants for the National Junior Evaluation Camp and World Junior Summer Showcase, a key stepping stone toward the 2027 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
A Milestone in a Young Defenseman’s Career
The showcase will take place from July 26 to August 1 at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario, where practices begin on July 22. Teams from Canada, Finland and Sweden will compete, and the event serves as the final evaluation period for athletes vying for spots on the championship roster.
Runtso, a native of Playa Vista, California, arrives after a breakout season with the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League, where he recorded 44 points in 68 games and earned NAHL Central Division Rookie of the Year honors in 2024‑25 with the St. Cloud Norsemen.
Next fall he will begin his collegiate career at Miami University, joining the RedHawks for the 2026‑27 season. The invitation reflects USA Hockey’s confidence in his defensive abilities and his potential to contribute at the international level.
The selection underscores a broader strategy to blend seasoned prospects with emerging talent, ensuring a deep pool of candidates as the organization prepares for the December 2026‑January 2027 championship in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.
