A Fresh Face for the Rush
The Rapid City Rush have added Russian forward Timofei Khokhlachev to their roster for the 2026‑27 season, a move that underscores the team’s intent to bolster its offensive depth.
Khokhlachev, a 24‑year‑old who spent the previous campaign with CSK VVS Samara in the VHL, Russia’s second‑tier league, brings a blend of size, speed and skill that the Rush hope will translate into immediate impact.
A North American Hockey Journey
Although born in Russia, Khokhlachev completed his entire junior and collegiate development in the United States, attending American International College where he served as alternate captain during the 2024‑25 season. His ten‑year stint in North America includes formative years in the U.S. junior ranks before turning professional.
Standing at 6‑foot‑4 and 225 pounds, he combines physical presence with notable skating speed, making him a formidable force on both the power play and the penalty kill.
Coach’s Praise
Dave Smith, the Rush’s head coach and general manager, described Khokhlachev as a player with “tremendous upside,” emphasizing his potential to contribute significantly in all situations, especially while shorthanded.
Family Legacy
The signing also resonates with a family tradition in hockey; Khokhlachev’s older brother, Alexander Khokhlachev, logged nine games in the NHL with the Boston Bruins and has carved out a notable career in the KHL, adding a layer of heritage to the new recruit’s profile.
Affiliation with the Calgary Flames
As an ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames, the Rush operate within a developmental ecosystem that links the Russian forward to a broader network of professional hockey, positioning him as a potential candidate for future NHL opportunities.
The organization has announced a flurry of signings this offseason, confirming eleven forwards and four defensemen for the upcoming campaign, signaling a comprehensive effort to refine its competitive edge.
