Tina Mattera, the longtime field hockey coach at Tufts University, has built a career that blends relentless ambition with a deep love for the game. Over 22 seasons she has guided the Jumbos to a 305‑90 record, capturing two NCAA Division III championships in 2012 and 2025 and adding three NESCAC titles to her résumé.
The 2025 title run culminated in a 3‑1 victory over Bates College, a moment that prompted Tufts President Sunil Kumar to host a reception in April 2026 honoring the champions. The celebration underscored the program’s rise under Mattera’s guidance and the university’s commitment to athletic excellence.
Beyond the sidelines, Mattera’s competitive spirit shone on the international stage when she represented the United States at the 2025 Masters Indoor World Cup in Nottingham, England, returning with a bronze medal alongside the over‑45 squad.
