North Park University has named Tyshaun "TJ" Cobbs as its new men's basketball assistant coach, a move that underscores the institution's commitment to continuity and excellence in student‑athlete development. Cobbs, a Chicago native, returns to the campus where he once donned a Vikings jersey from 2013 to 2017, bringing a blend of playing experience and coaching acumen that aligns with the university's holistic approach to athletics.
A Legacy of Victory
During his four‑year tenure, Cobbs helped the Vikings capture a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship and earned All‑Conference honors in his senior season. His contributions on the court were marked by a reputation for fundamentals, discipline, and leadership — qualities that have defined his coaching philosophy ever since.
Cobbs launched his coaching career as a varsity assistant at Alan B. Shepard High School before advancing to associate head coach at St. Laurence High School. In 2022, he took the helm of the Oak Forest High School boys varsity team, where he continued to refine his approach to player development and team culture.

Coach Ed McGhee highlighted Cobbs' unique ability to connect with people, noting that his presence will positively impact the program's culture. "TJ brings not only a winning pedigree but also a genuine passion for mentoring young athletes," McGhee said in the announcement.
