The University of Florida announced Tuesday that longtime recruiting ace Todd Butler will join the Gators baseball program as an assistant coach, tasked with overseeing the team’s recruiting efforts.
A Recruiting Powerhouse Returns to the SEC
Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan praised Butler’s three‑decade pedigree, highlighting his success in securing ten top‑10 recruiting classes and guiding six of his former teams to the College World Series.
Butler’s career spans stints at Oklahoma, Wichita State, McNeese State and several other programs, during which his squads amassed 19 NCAA Tournament appearances and produced 46 players who reached the Major League Baseball draft.
In his new role, Butler will be responsible for identifying and signing the next wave of talent, a mission he says aligns with the Gators’ ambition to contend for a national championship.
New Commitments Already in the Fold
Butler has already secured two verbal commitments: outfielder/designated hitter Drew Dickerson and outfielder Braylen Montgomery, both of whom are expected to report to Gainesville for the upcoming season.
Butler expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, stating he is eager to contribute to the program’s pursuit of a championship and to work alongside associate head coach Tom Slater and pitching coach Rich Dorman.
Dorman’s recent appointment follows the dismissal of David Kopp after the team’s early exit from the Gainesville Regional against Troy, signaling a shift in the staff’s strategic direction.
