Todd Whitting Parts Ways with Houston After 16 Seasons

Program enters a new era following a historic run that included multiple conference titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.

After 16 years at the helm of the University of Houston baseball program, head coach Todd Whitting and the school have mutually agreed to part ways, ending a tenure that reshaped the program’s national profile.

A Legacy of Success

Whitting leaves behind a résumé that includes 498 victories, a .558 win‑loss record, four NCAA Tournament berths and three American Athletic Conference regular‑season crowns, highlighted by tournament titles in 2014 and 2017.

The coach’s impact extended beyond the win column. He guided the Cougars to the conference tournament championship in 2014 and 2017, and his 2018 squad earned the program’s most recent AAC Coach of the Year honor.

Whitting’s journey to the top began as a player at Houston from 1991 to 1995, with a stint at Navarro College in between. He returned to his alma mater as an assistant before ascending to the head role, his first collegiate head‑coaching position.

Now the university faces its first coaching vacancy since 2010, a transition that will test the administration’s ability to preserve the momentum built over the past decade and a half.
