Free Street Hockey Clinic Engages Toledo Youth
The Toledo Walleye, the ECHL franchise that calls Toledo home, organized a street hockey clinic on Saturday, July 8, inside the Huntington Center. The event, held in the arena’s main floor, was designed to introduce young people to the fast‑paced world of street hockey and to encourage active, healthy lifestyles among the city’s next generation.
Members of the Walleye organization, including players and coaches, served as instructors, guiding participants through fundamental skills such as stick handling, shooting, and passing. The clinic welcomed youth of all skill levels, from beginners who had never held a hockey stick to more experienced players looking to sharpen their game.
Every participant received free equipment, ensuring that cost would not be a barrier to entry. The open‑door policy meant families from across the region could attend, reinforcing the Walleye’s commitment to accessibility and community outreach.
Beyond the on‑ice instruction, the clinic served as a platform for the team to strengthen its ties with Toledo residents. By partnering with the Huntington Center — a multi‑purpose venue that also hosts the Toledo Rockets men’s basketball team — the Walleye highlighted the arena’s role as a hub for youth sports and community events.
