Tom Moore, a longtime assistant coach and general manager for the University of Connecticut men’s basketball program, has announced his retirement after nearly four decades spent in coaching.
Having begun his career at Worcester State and Assumption before joining UConn in 1994, Moore worked under Hall of Fame coach Jim Calhoun and later under current head coach Dan Hurley, contributing to four national championship teams.
His influence extended beyond the bench, as he helped shape the roster that produced NBA talents such as Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton and Emeka Okafor, and more recently guided the development of Andre Jackson, Donovan Clingan and Alex Karaban.
Four National Championships
Moore’s tenure was marked by a blend of strategic acumen and player development, qualities that earned him a reputation as a key architect of UConn’s sustained success.
After serving as head coach at Quinnipiac from 2007 to 2017, Moore returned to Storrs in 2017 as an assistant under Hurley, eventually taking on the additional responsibility of general manager while still coaching.
A New Era for the Huskies
The program will now embark on a national search for its next general manager following the departure of Luke Murray, who accepted the head coaching position at Boston College, and the subsequent hiring of former Butler coach Mike Pegues to fill the vacancy.
These moves signal a transitional period for the Huskies as they prepare for the 2026‑27 season, with head coach Dan Hurley set to navigate new leadership alongside a refreshed support staff.
