Tom Moore Joins Iowa Football Staff as Senior Consultant

Legendary Hawkeye Returns to Advise Head Coach Kirk Ferentz

The University of Iowa announced Tuesday that Tom Moore, a former Hawkeye quarterback and longtime NFL assistant, has been hired as a senior consultant to the head coach and offensive advisor.

A Legendary Career Returns to Iowa

Moore lettered for the Hawkeyes in 1959 and 1960, playing quarterback and placekicker while earning a bachelor's degree in history, and he helped Iowa post a 13‑5 record, including an 8‑1 mark in 1960.

His coaching journey has taken him from graduate assistant roles at Iowa to head positions at Dayton, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Minnesota, followed by extensive NFL stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Super Bowl Glory and Hall of Fame

A four‑time Super Bowl champion, Moore won titles with the Steelers, Colts and Buccaneers, and he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2014, having also mentored under coaches such as Chuck Noll and Tony Dungy.

In his new advisory capacity, Moore will work closely with head coach Kirk Ferentz, a relationship that has spanned more than a decade, to help shape the Hawkeyes' offensive strategy and player development.

University officials say his wealth of experience, including five conference championships and a deep understanding of both college and professional offenses, is expected to elevate the program's competitiveness and continue Iowa's tradition of strong football leadership.
