Iowa announced that Tom Moore, a former Hawkeye quarterback and longtime coach, will join Kirk Ferentz’s football staff as a senior consultant and offensive advisor.
Moore’s football journey began in 1959 and 1960 when he played quarterback and place kicker for the Hawkeyes, laying the groundwork for a career that would span more than six decades.
After graduating, he served as a graduate assistant at Iowa before being drafted into the Army, then embarked on coaching stops at Dayton, Wake Forest University, the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Minnesota.
His extensive résumé includes four Super Bowl championships — two with the Pittsburgh Steelers, one with the Indianapolis Colts and another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — highlighting a playing and coaching legacy that stretches across generations.
A new chapter for the Hawkeyes
Ferentz welcomed Moore’s wealth of experience, noting that the veteran’s deep understanding of offensive schemes and player development will complement the existing staff and help shape the next era of Iowa football.
The hiring underscores Iowa’s commitment to blending tradition with innovation, leveraging a coach whose career has been marked by both on‑field success and a dedication to mentorship.
