A Veteran’s Journey
Tom Parrotta has been named an assistant coach for the Quinnipiac men's basketball team, reuniting with head coach Tom Pecora after years of professional overlap. The hiring marks a strategic move for Quinnipiac as it seeks to bolster its coaching roster with a seasoned recruiter and developer of talent.
Parrotta arrives with more than three decades of collegiate coaching experience, having served in various capacities at institutions including Hofstra, Fordham, Canisius, Niagara, Fairfield, and Columbia. His most recent role was as an assistant at Columbia during the 2020‑21 season, and he previously helped Hofstra secure a 24‑win campaign and the CAA Championship in the 2025‑26 season.
Championship Pedigree and Player Development
During his tenure at Hofstra, Parrotta contributed to a 24‑win season and a conference title, underscoring his ability to translate recruiting successes into on‑court victories. At Canisius, he guided the Golden Griffins to back‑to‑back 15‑win seasons and elevated the program’s win total by three in his first year as head coach, demonstrating a knack for rapid program improvement.
His impact extended to Fairfield, where he helped the Stags achieve 19 wins and earn a berth in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. At Columbia, he assisted in a period that included a 105‑game winning streak over five seasons, a testament to his consistent contribution to program stability and success.
Beyond the bench, Parrotta’s basketball roots trace back to his playing days in the Portuguese Basketball Association and his induction into the Stepinac Hardwood Club Hall of Fame in 2010. He also consulted for the NBA in 2019, further enriching his perspective on the professional game.
Quinnipiac’s athletic director highlighted the hire as a blend of experience and fresh insight, noting that Parrotta’s background aligns with the program’s ambition to compete at higher levels within the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The university community anticipates that his arrival will deepen recruiting pipelines and enhance player development initiatives.
