Tomball Baseball Secures Third State Title in Three Years
The Tomball Titans clinched the Class 6A, Division II championship on Saturday, overpowering Memorial 9-1 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas. The victory marks the third state crown in as many years, cementing the program’s recent dominance.
Head coach Doug Rush, who has guided the team since the previous season’s heartbreak, said the championship was the culmination of relentless preparation. “We practiced in the cold, we faced a brutal schedule, and we never stopped grinding,” he explained, noting that the team finished the 2024 campaign with a staggering 119‑10‑2 record, the only stretch of consecutive losses coming in a single game early in the season.
Among the standouts, sophomore right‑hander C.J. Sampson delivered a masterful performance, limiting Memorial to seven hits while striking out eight batters. His 13‑1 record and 0.88 playoff ERA underscored his emergence as a premier pitcher, earning him the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.
Catcher Hopkins, a Texas A&M signee, praised the contributions of younger teammates who stepped up during the playoffs. “Seeing those kids rise to the occasion was incredible,” Hopkins said, highlighting the depth that will keep the Titans competitive next season.
Other key figures such as Nolan Rush, Corbin Cook, Daniel Obriant and Lane Bradford also played pivotal roles throughout the year. Their combined effort turned a talented roster into a cohesive unit that could thrive under pressure.
The championship not only adds another trophy to Tomball’s showcase but also places the program among an exclusive group of Texas high schools that have captured multiple titles in recent memory. With the core talent set to return, the Titans are poised to remain a formidable force in the state’s baseball landscape.
